The Gál Sándor House is open for visitors

At its official opening ceremony, the Gál Sándor House was described as a peasant house built in the typical style of the Ciuc region, with its very imposing dimensions, which tell us that it belonged to a wealthy family.

The official opening of Gál Sándor’s renovated birthplace took place on the 10th of December, with more than fifty locals and invited guests present. At the inauguration ceremony mayor Réti Zsófia was the first to welcome the guests, pointing out in her speech that Colonel Gál Sándor is not only the pride of Ciucsângeorgiu, but also of our Hungarian nation, of Szeklerland, who not only stood his ground on the battlefield, but also became a spiritual value. The mayor also pointed out that this building represents perhaps the most impressive example of Szekler folk architecture – a building 11 meters wide, 16 meters long and consisting of five rooms.

In her speech the mayor highlighted the role of journalist Daczó Katalin, who wrote the entire story of the house and, as a journalist, carried the fate of the house close to her heart. Thanks to her the House of Gál Sándor’s childhood and early youth has survived. She also pointed out that in 2015 the local administration, led by György József, trusted Lőrincz Barna to carry out a preliminary study as an architect – the project was finally completed with the submission to AFIR (Agency for Rural Investment). Local professionals were involved in the works: not only in the reconstruction, but also in the furnishing. Károly Veronika from Armășeni painted the furniture made by Gál Levente, a master carpenter from Bancu, and the carpets were donated by locals.

At the inauguration also gave speech: Borboly Csaba, president of the Harghita County Counsel, Lukács Bence Ákos on the behalf of the Consulate General of Hungary from Miercurea Ciuc, Lőrincz Barna, the head of the construction team, Gergely András, on behalf of the Association of the Microregional Development of Cicului de Jos.

The ceremony was completed with a festive show in the performance of the students of the Gál Sándor Primary School. As a closing moment, the building was blessed by the parish priest Pál Vilmos Barna.
