A successful year despite adversity

It has been an eventful year for the municipality of Ciucsângeorgiu. Due to the pandemic regulations, the village council was canceled, however, we report below the most important activities.

Mayor Réti Zsófia shared some thoughts: “we had a rich and full year, thanks to the team spirit as the following report shows, a lot happened in our community, despite the fact that we had to learn to live with the virus. I think Wass Albert’s words are still relevant today. His lesson and conclusion are that we need to set a clear direction – as private individuals, professionals, politicians, scientific explorers, children, adults, and teachers – the kindness and decency we convey to each other matters most. We must hold the mirror up to ourselves first.

I hope that kindness and fairness will guide our steps and actions in the forthcoming years. May it be our guide in our homes, in our workplaces, in our families, and then we can dream of a better, quieter, and more peaceful future.

In mid-December, the fifth budget adjustment of the year took place due to changes in state allocations, new heating subsidies, requests from schools, and additional revenue from certain local taxes and fees.

At the end of the year, two major investments were handed over: the Gál Sándor House and the Orbán László Community House.

Several book launches were also held in the village and six local training courses were offered. Around 120 people enrolled in four open courses – ecological maintenance, cleaning, cheese making, and gastronomy – while nine local government employees completed a project management training course and personal care workers had the opportunity to develop their skills in our village.

Twenty-five job openings were advertised during the year, resulting in 12 new hires.

The Deputy Mayor recorded over 200 requests and referrals during the year, as well as 24 damage claims (due to wildlife) with total compensation of over 52,000 RON. The volunteer fire brigade in our municipality has been reorganized and 40 new volunteers have been hired. The purchase of protective equipment is in progress.

Renovation of the civil centre in Ciucsângeorgiu: painting works, renovation of the heating system, relocation of the gas system, repair of the heating system in the library, repair of equipment, and cleaning of the stage. In addition, public trash cans have been installed in the commune. They have also taken care of the renovation of playgrounds, maintenance, and landscaping of the kindergarten, parks, and green areas, as well as the management of communal forests. Flood damage assessment and monitoring of repair works are also carried out by the staff of this department.

Programs, events

The Góbé Market has been organized six times during the year to support local producers. The Municipality commemorated the anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-49, and the village feast was organized. Consultations and public forums were also held on several topics. At the initiative of local councilors, a table tennis tournament was organized in spring and a village clean-up was carried out: in spring and autumn, the villagers joined forces to make the village a cleaner place.

This year, the local administration organized a special program to show its appreciation to the village elders. Almost monthly, public discussions on important topics have been held.
